Creative Places Tuam Artist Bursary Recipients
News, Recipients
Create is pleased to announce Jennifer Cunningham, Jacqueline Glynn, and Jojo Hynes and Midie Corcoran as the recipients of the Creative Places Tuam Artist Bursary Awards: Community Solidarity through Collaborative Practices.
The purpose of this bursary is to support and nurture professional socially engaged artists’ practice within the Tuam town and hinterland area that has been disrupted during this time of crisis. It is specifically aimed at an artist who has a track record of working collaboratively with communities of place or interest. The bursary will provide the selected artist with time and resources to carry out research and to reflect on their practice. More particularly, the bursary allows the artist to consider key questions associated with their practice using collaborative methodologies. It is expected that the recipient of this award share the learning arising from the bursary with the Creative Places Tuam Programme and the local community.
Jacqueline Glynn will use the bursary to “research alternative methodologies within my current practice and to develop ‘Boarder Stories’, a participatory project with communities of interest”.
Jennifer Cunningham writes “During Covid 19, particularly during lockdown, I have been reflecting on the place where I live and its future, how this has impacted on young people and what impression this will leave on them. This award will allow me the chance to develop connections with the local community albeit on a digital level for the moment”.
Jojo Hynes and Midie Corcoran will work together to reflect on their experiences as collaborative artists, and to research inspiring collectives and explore best working practices within their community.
We look forward to working with the successful artists to realise their ambitions for the bursary, and to share their learning with the people of Tuam.
