Open Call For Artists

Create’s Collaborative Arts Partnership Programme (CAPP) in partnership with Fingal County Council’s Arts Office are pleased to announce an International Residency Programme at Resort Residency – Lynders Mobile Home Park, Portrane, Ireland.

This residency is part of the Collaborative Arts Partnership Programme (CAPP) which is funded by Creative Europe. CAPP’s Residency Programme seeks to explore new models of participation and cooperation and encourages exchange of artist’s methodologies and practices in context. The overall goal of CAPP is to improve and open up opportunities for artists who are working collaboratively across Europe, by enhancing mobility and exchange whilst at the same time engaging new publics and audiences for collaborative practices.

Call Out

Resort Residency runs from 9th – 30th September 2016 and offers a collaborative artist the opportunity to undertake a three week residency at the scenic Lynders Mobile Home Park in the thriving North County Dublin villages and surrounding areas of Portrane and Donabate. We are seeking residency participants who wish to explore the possibilities of socially engaged / collaborative practice within this context. The residency will support research and dialogue with the community.

Resort Residency will coincide with the local Bleeding Pig Festival / Resort Revelations Programme which is a significant local festival affording the Resort Residency artist a great introduction to the area. Create and Fingal Arts Office will support the artist through the process and facilitate meaningful engagement with the local and artistic community linked to the residency. A fee of €1,500 for the participating resident artist will be offered, with an additional €500 for materials / documentation. Travel costs will be covered and the resident artist will stay in a 2 bedroomed mobile home situated in Lynders Mobile Home Park.

The Residency is open to contemporary collaborative artists working across all art-forms and is open to an artist who is from one of the following CAPP partner territories UK, Spain, Finland, Hungary and Germany.

This is the first Residency programmed by Create as part of CAPP. Create will be announcing other CAPP residency opportunities in 2016 which will be open to Irish as well as international artists.

Location & Context

Portrane and the neighbouring town Donabate are situated on a peninsula of North County Dublin. Lynders Mobile Home Park is located on its edge, directly opposite the stunning Lambay Island. Portrane has an interesting past, historically emerging as a small village, to being the site of one of Ireland’s largest psychiatric hospitals – St Ita’s built in 1890. A google description of St Ita’s says it was built, then on an isolated peninsula of North Dublin. Over 100 years later, St Ita’s still functions, but as a small Health Services Executive facility. The area is relatively unspoilt and underdeveloped as a tourist destination. It has a strong vibrant community who have already demonstrated their commitment to share in and contribute to the artist’s experience of the residency.

Initiated in 2014 by Fingal County Council’s Arts Office Resort Residency is an invited /curated residency programme located at Lynders Mobile Home Park. To date 16 Irish artists, curators and researchers have engaged with Resort Residency, each residing at this coastal mobile home for a week long period where they were supported by Fingal County Council’s arts office to explore the locality and situate their practice within this context during the holiday season. In 2015 a selection of the residency participants were invited to return and create new work which was presented during the locally organised Bleeding Pig Festival. Resort Revelations provided the opportunity for the artists to share their experience of the residency with the immediate and wider audience.

In 2016, Resort Residency is being offered to an international artist.

The Collaborative Arts Partnership Programme is supported by Creative Europe (Culture Sub-Programme Support for European Co-operation Projects Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency.
