New board members at Create

Create is delighted to announce that two new members have joined the Create board. They are Sinead Dowling, Arts Officer, Carlow County Council and Martin Drury, independent practitioner and adviser, and former Director of Strategic Development at the Arts Council.

Ailbhe Murphy Director of Create said:

“Our two new board members bring significant skills to the Create Board. Sinead with her experience rooted in local arts, curation and commissioning and Martin with a distinguished career spanning so many key arts and policy areas. As Create heads towards its next phase of development with a new Strategic Plan from 2018 onwards, Sinead and Martin’s contribution will be invaluable to the organisation’s growth and consolidation.”

Sinead Dowling has been Arts Officer with Carlow County Council since 2004, where she is responsible for local arts development in Carlow. She has curated and project managed temporary site specific art projects in Carlow. Through management of the public art programme, Sinead has also been responsible for innovative commissioning of artists. She sees collaboration, risk taking and contemporary art rooted locally at the heart of all commissions. Recently awarded Invitation to Collaborate Arts Council funding for Carlow as a partnership project with Take A Part UK, this important initiative will result in socially engaged co commissioning opportunities for local communities. As an artist Sinead was commissioned through Breaking Ground, Ballymun 2001 and is currently undertaking a Masters in Socially Engaged Practice NCAD.

Martin Drury is an independent practitioner and adviser. In a career spanning nearly forty years and encompassing practice, project-management and policy-making, he has been Arts Education Officer (Sligo/Leitrim); Artistic Director of TEAM theatre-in-education company; Education Officer at the Arts Council ; author of The Dublin Arts Report; Druid Theatre’s script editor; Founding Director of The Ark, A Cultural Centre for Children; theatre director with 20+ productions to his credit including a period as Associate Director of the Abbey Theatre; Arts Director and later Director of Strategic Development at the Arts Council. He is a board member of Music Generation.
