Dolphin House Mini Commission awarded to Sophia Tamburrini

Dublin City Council is delighted to announce that artist Sophia Tamburrini has been awarded the first Dolphin House Mini Commission.

Since September 2025, DCC, through its Arts office, has been working with Create and artist Evelyn Broderick and the community of Dolphin House on a Public Art programme which places the community at the heart of the Public Art Commissioning Process.

The local community has participated in weekly workshops and discussions about the Public Art Commissioning Process, led by Evelyn Broderick. These workshops raised local awareness of the nature and benefits of contemporary public art and how the community can have ownership and leadership within the commissioning process. Crucially, this deep engagement allowed for the interests and ideas of local communities to be heard and to learn how the community identify themselves and their neighbourhood.

Sophia Tamburrini is an artist whose practice centres on community, place, and collective memory. Taking a multidisciplinary approach to collaboration, she creates projects that are shaped by the people and places she works with Sophia’s proposal is for an open-air community archive celebrating the voices, history, and spirit of Dolphin House.

Over a 6-month period, Tamburrini will undertake a residency in Dolphin House and work with the local community to gather photographs, objects, memories, and stories. These stories will be presented to the public through large-scale artworks installed across the estate, making visible the memories embedded in the fabric of this place and celebrating the lives lived here.
