Create and Fire Station Artists’ Studios are pleased to announce Nasrin Golden as the recipient of the 2022 Remote Residency Award.
This award was designed for collaborative socially engaged artists who are from a minority ethnic background, have first-hand experience of displacement and/or who are shaped by histories of intergenerational migration. The Residency will take place remotely over four weeks between June and July, with some key meetings held in person. The Create and FSAS Residency offers a focused professional development opportunity that supports and nurtures the arts practice of a professional artist who is interested in developing or consolidating their collaborative/ socially engaged arts practice
The residency is funded through the Arts Council of Ireland’s Artist in the Community Scheme, which is managed by Create, and the Fire Station Artists’ Studios, which is funded through the Visual Arts Department of the Arts Council of Ireland. The award is delivered through a partnership between Create and Fire Station Artists’ Studios.
Nasrin Golden is an Iranian/Irish Visual Artist who attempts to convey the healing and reconciliation of conflict inherent to the human condition. As a migrant living in Ireland since 2012, her work transcends cultural barriers as she aims to convey the commonalities underlying shared lived experiences. Through different mediums (photography, painting, video art) Nasrin’s work frequently contrasts opposites through variations of light and colour. She frequently explores women’s issues, especially repressed femininity, notions of self and its manifestations.
This residency award will allow Nasrin time to develop and integrate her creative practice collaboratively, developing a network of other collaborative artists for peer support, work with experts in the field and learn how the community may benefit from her practice as well as identifying their needs.
The panel which awarded this residency was chaired by Áine Crowley, Programme Manager Arts and Engagement, and consisted of Julia Moustacchi, Fire Station Artists Studios, and Dorone Paris, Artist. Create staff member Vance Lau took minutes, and the panel was observed by Helen Carey, Director, Fire Station Artists Studios.
