Artist in the Community Scheme Information Sessions
Twice yearly, the Arts Council offers Artist in the Community Scheme grants to enable artists and communities of place/or interest to work together on projects. The scheme is managed by Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts.
The scheme is open to artists from any of the following artform disciplines: architecture, circus, street art and spectacle, dance, film, literature (Irish and English language), music, opera, theatre, visual arts and traditional arts. The projects can take place in a diverse range of social and community contexts eg arts and health; arts in prisons; arts and older people; arts and cultural diversity. The aim of the scheme is to encourage meaningful collaboration between communities of place and/or interest and artists.
Create is pleased to announce we will host two information sessions on applying to the Artist in the Community Scheme (AIC) ahead of the March 26th deadline.

The AIC information session is about answering any questions you might have about making an application to the Scheme. It’s also about sharing experience of developing and delivering a collaborative project, through the Scheme. If you are an artist or a community organisation interested in the Artist in the Community Scheme but don’t know where to start, come talk to us. If you are an artist interested in developing a collaborative project with a community organisation or in a community situation this event is for you. If you are an artist who has applied before and would like to access further detail on the application process, please join us.
Kathryn Maguire
As a previous recipient of AIC Research and Development with Mentoring Award and as an artist who has collaborated with communities through Project Realisation Awards, Kathryn will speak at the Wicklow Information Session. Kathryn will share her experience of ‘We Claim’ a public artwork which was a collaboration between a Young Migrant Women’s Group based in Dublin and the outcome of the Project Realisation Award. Kathryn’s practice uses text, sculpture, video, and installation work. She has used text and materials of signage as a means to highlight historical writings in public spaces, making diverse cultural references that link the historical with contemporary.
Marie Brett
As a previous recipient of AIC Research and Development Award and as an artist who has collaborated with communities through Project Realisation Awards, Marie will speak at the Cork Information Session. Marie is a visual artist based in Cork who uses digital media, sculpture and immersive installation to produce artwork as a reflection on contemporary life. Her practice involves a social and collective dimension, her approach to collaboration with community and place informs and influences the making of new work which has gained national interest. Marie has received numerous awards and her artwork is held in collections nationally and internationally.
This scheme is funded by the Arts Council and managed by Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts. Please note that this award may be subject to different conditions and criteria than the awards directly administered by the Arts Council. Requests for information or application forms should be directed to Create.
