Advisory Support

Create offers advisory support to individuals and organisations, both through one-on-one meetings with Create and group sessions.

The content of sessions is tailored to the needs of the individual practitioner or organisation. This can be an opportunity for you to discuss planning your work, gathering key information on sources of support, funding, potential partners and/or organisational development.

Create staff are available to offer tailored support, addressing key aspects of applying for, budgeting for, promoting, documenting and evaluating collaborative projects. This support is designed for emerging artists, community organisations, local authorities and established artists moving into collaborative practice.

Create offers office space and facilities, incubation services, a Reading Room, and Vetting to organisations as well as individual artists.

Project Support

In keeping with a key action of our strategy to create innovative opportunities and ensure reliable supports for artist, artists project development is a very important aspect of our work.

Artist’s project support includes capacity building, offering guidance, brokering project partnerships, offering practical and in kind support as well as supporting artists to make strategic connections to realise longer term artistic and socio-cultural goals. Artists we have recently worked with include Softday on their Uisce Salach project, Michelle Browne on her City Change Masterclass and Deirdre O’Mahony on Small Farmers’ Guide to Saving the World.

Organisational Support

In keeping with Create’s strategic goal to develop cultural and cross sectoral partnerships to support greater diversity in collaborative practice and strengthen its potential for social change, connections to and strategic partnerships with both arts and community and civil society organisations are essential to the work we do. Organisations Create has recently worked with include Pavee Point Traveller and Roma Centre, Galway City Community Network, Fatima Groups United among others. We are also working with A4 Sounds as a mentor for their series of socially engaged arts activities under the theme ‘We Only Want the Earth’. This programme interrogates the goals and strategies of social change in Ireland.

Reading Room and Resources

The Create Reading Room offers access to a wealth of books, periodicals and pamphlets related to the development of social art practice in Ireland and beyond. Comprising a growing collection of 500+ published titles, the Reading Room is a designated space for research in a newly refurbished state of the art facility. The room is set up to facilitate browsing with access to an internal catalogue available on request. Four single-person desk spaces are available, as well as a table with capacity for eight people. Each desk is equipped with a socket and lamp. Wifi is available as well as a large screen and camera for hybrid meetings.

We offer three types of access to the Reading Room holdings for individuals. Bookings can be made on the Reading Room page, linked here. 

Self-directed access means that you are booking a desk without needing an introduction to the holdings.

Guided access means that you require a short introduction to the library holdings by a Create staff member.

Research Clinic means that you will be offered a one-to-one booking with our Research & Learning Manager to discuss your specific research topic. You will be offered tailored advice on accessing Create’s archival and library holdings and other relevant repositories. The Research and Learning Manager will be available for 30 minute appointments, but you are welcome to use the Reading Room space for the remainder of the three hour slot.  Research Clinics are available only on Wednesdays, subject to availability.
