Projects and Initiatives: Garda Vetting Affiliate Service

Create - Garda Vetting Affiliate Service Create is registered with the Garda Central Vetting Unit to provide access to vetting for artists engaged in collaborative arts work with communities of interest and/or place.

Garda Vetting is a procedure through which An Garda is asked, with a person’s written permission, to confirm whether or not the individual has been convicted of a crime. Employers use the procedure to ensure that individuals convicted of abuse or other crimes are not offered positions of responsibility for work with children, young people or vulnerable adults.

Vetting through Create will be available to organizations that affiliate to the Vetting Service. This is aimed at organizations that intend to employ or host an artist(s) for work that may involve regular, unsupervised or otherwise substantial access to vulnerable persons.

Create hopes to develop its policies and guidelines to a point where the arts sector can adopt a standard approach to Garda Vetting. This will allow the arts to make a significant contribution to state policy while also providing best practice safeguards for arts organizations and artists.

Create is happy to advise artists and their employers about vetting issues. Organisations interested in the Affiliate Service should contact Arthur Duignan, Authorised Signatory, at (01) 4736600.

Create is committed to safeguarding the well-being of all children, young people and vulnerable adults with whom we, and our associates, interact and to the development and implementation of policies and practices that protect vulnerable persons from harm.
