ArtTrail invites artists of all disciplines, individuals or groups, curators, organisations, and venues, to propose projects, performances, events, walks and more that respond to the theme 'Rediscovering Locality' for this year's ArtTrail. Art Trail 2009 will run in Cork from 13 to 22 November 2009 with two main strands – Exhibitions and Open Studios - alongside a series of tours and talks.

ArtTrail 2009 will focus events in the upper Docklands and City Centre, but proposals are not restricted to this area. Locations and venues can be used or disused premises, public or private, indoors or outdoors. At least one space will be a large warehouse-type building on the quays. In 2009 ArtTrail Open Studios is expanding to include group and individual studios in Cork County as well as City and submissions are sought for 'Dérives', a series of weekday lunchtime walks in Cork investigating the city from a range of artistic, historical and psycho-geographical perspectives.

The British Council has launched 'The Fifth Curator', a call to find an international curator to select a final exhibition of work from the British Council Collection at the Whitechapel Gallery in London. Previous curators in this series of exhibitions include Michael Craig-Martin, Jeremy Deller, Nicholas Penny and Paula Rego.

To enter, curators based permanently outside the UK should submit an exhibition proposal including only works from the 8,500-piece British Council Collection. In November 2009, 6 shortlisted applicants will be invited to London to take part in a week of professional development with the Visual Arts Department of the British Council to refine their proposals. The winning exhibition will be shown at the Whitechapel in April 2010.

The Market Place Theatre & Arts Centre in Armagh is currently inviting artists to submit proposals for exhibitions as part of the Market Place Gallery's visual arts programme from April 2010 onwards. Submissions will be assessed by a selection panel and should include:

The organisers of TULCA Festival of Visual Arts have announced an Open Call to national and international artists for the visual arts programme of TULCA 2009, which will take place at a number of venues in Galway City from 6 to 21 November 2009. Accompanied by talks, performance and events, the visual arts programme will be curated by Helen Carey and administered by Ceara Conway.

Selection from the Open Call will be made by the Festival Curator. Artists whose practice reflects an interest in examining the boundaries and overlaps in the Public and Private spheres, whether physical or conceptual, through performance, projection, sound or installation work should submit a proposal including:
- current CV (max. 3 pages)
- images or documentation of previous work on PC compatible DVD or CD

Dublin City Council invites applications from artists who wish to be considered for a Bursary of E4,000 towards studies at an advanced level or the development of work and/or professional skills. Artists resident in Dublin City Council’s administrative area can apply for a Bursary in Visual Arts, Music, Dance, Drama and Literature. One Bursary will be awarded in each discipline.

The Joinery on Arbour Hill invites submissions for the exhibition 'If These Walls Could Talk' which will be held as part of DEAF 2009 from 21 October to 1 November 2009.

Continuing with last year's theme of re-interpreting the medium of video art and its context, this year's exhibition looks for the literal and conceptual presence of the walls and structures that define the urban environment and how space is re-used, recycled, changed and re-invented to span over lifetimes.

Artists, individuals and groups working in all media, are invited to submit research and production project proposals for research positions of up to two years in the Fine Art Department at the Jan van Eyck Academie Post-Academic Institute for Research and Production in Maastricht, The Netherlands.

The Fine Art department offers a space for experimentation, production, reflection and debate. The academy offers expertise in all media and production areas, in-house or in cooperation with partner organisations. Researchers are advised by a team of artists, designers and theoreticians and are provided with their own studio and a stipend of E9,360 paid in instalments. Funding for individual projects can be applied for on a project-by-project basis.

The Arts Office of North Tipperary County Council welcomes submissions for switch 2009. switch promotes and shows contemporary visual art in a public context in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, and artists working with film, lens based work and the moving image are invited to submit work relating to the theme of 'playfulness' for this year's event.

From 14 to 22 November 2009 switch will occupy unused spaces throughout Nenagh town centre to project works of moving image. 8 video works will be shown simultaneously in various locations from 5 to 11pm in the evenings. The event will be accompanied by a publication and website and an artist fee of E250 will be paid per selected artist.

Business to Arts is calling all arts entrepreneurs who have been in business for 3 years or less to enter this year’s David Manley Emerging Entrepreneur Awards.


The prize fund available includes a cash prize of E10,000 and mentoring and services from  companies such as Deloitte, Mason Hayes+Curran, Enterprise Ireland, Thesaurus Software, Image Now, Newmarket Consulting, Dublin Chamber of Commerce, Newmarket Partnership Business & Finance and gbc Public Relations.

In each of the 3 areas of Endeavour, Arts, and Business and Social, three shortlisted nominees will be selected to go forward to the semi-final round of judging. All 9 semi-finalists will receive mentoring courtesy of Enterprise Ireland and payroll and accounting software from Thesaurus Software. The Awards will be presented in January 2010 and previous winners include Emergent Events and Camara.

LUX Associate Artists Programme is a unique 12 month post-academic development course for artists working with the moving image, starting in November 2009. The Programme is open to all artists working with the moving image who have completed a graduate or postgraduate course in the last five years.

The LUX Associate Artists Programme is for artists working with the moving image, who have completed a graduate or post-graduate course in the past five years. It aims to provide an intensive course of development focused on critical discourse, extending to the practical and infrastructural issues that present challenges for artists working with the medium. The course aims to provide a mutually supportive context in which to develop work, and to benefit from networking and learning opportunities with arts professionals closely involved in artists moving image, with funding to realise a final group project.

The Royal Hibernian Academy invites emerging artists to apply for the RHA Emerging Artist Studio 2010. The RHA is offering a studio space studio in two slots in 2010 to two emerging artists. The studio is fully subsidised with no cost to the selected artists. The studio is a non-residential space and it measures 4.7 x 4.9m. It is fully equipped with a sink and storage space. Kitchen facilities are available and the studio has 24 hour secure access.


The studio is available in two slots in 2010, March to June inclusive and July to December inclusive. Applicants for the studio are asked to state which slot they are applying for and to submit the following:

- CV
- up to 10 images of previous work in print format
- a letter detailing the candidate’s intentions for the allocated period in the studio
