Monaghan is offering four bursary awards for professional artists in the Fingal area. The awards are being offered to enhance the development of visual arts, writing, music and dance. Each award will grant successful applicants the opportunity to spend two weeks in the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, an ideal environment for the development of creative projects which will also provides recipients with opportunity to network with other artists. Applicants for the bursaries must be emerging or established artists, writers, poets, musicians, dancers or choreographers who were born or currently resident in the Fingal administrative area. Artists from the north and the south of Ireland are eligible to apply. The project is based in North Leitrim and will explore the landscape of the borderland region in the context of its social and historical developments and influences with the aim of facilitating relationships on a cross border and cross community basis. International Sculpture Conference 2010 Deadline: 4 June Category: Call for Papers Email: Website: www.sculpture.org The International Sculpture Center (ISC) in collaboration with The University of the Arts, London, announces a call for papers for the 22nd International Sculpture Conference which will take place from 7 to 9 April 2010 in London. The theme of the symposium is 'What is Sculpture in the 21st Century?', and it will aim to explore and consider the potential of sculpture in the 21st century, provide an opportunity to both celebrate its vitality and diversity, its capacity to challenge, and to examine its current position, function and production. Individuals are invited to submit proposals for papers and panel discussions that provoke critical exchange and debate in relation to the broad thematic areas outlined on the ISC's website. Submissions are encouraged that support opportunities for interaction between participants and enable the conference to engage in an international exchange of ideas and viewpoints. Individuals wishing to contribute panel abstract proposals for the 22nd International Sculpture Conference must submit a 200 word abstract for review by the Conference Advisory Committee. Aarhus is seeking suggestions for group and solo exhibitions plus artistic, documentary or animated films etc. for a special film program under the same heading. Galway, from 11 July to 20 September 2009. Artists are invited to create or submit site-specific work in a wide range of media, including environmental sculpture, light installation, performance and sound, that responds to the natural and architectural landscape of the garden and its inherent themes. A site visit will be held from 2 to 5pm on Friday 22 May 2009, or by arrangement, so artists interested in submitting work may identify possible spaces in which to locate their work. Submissions can range from being short, interventionistic artistic reactions to specific occurances on the Underground, to long-term collaborations aimed at creating sustainable relationships with BVG staff and/or users of the network over a number of years. Simply Screen relates to the course Dichotomy, Diversity, Discourse: Art on the Pacific Rim of the 2009 Transart Institute Summer Residency. There will be a one-hour screening of ten pieces of selected works and a 30-minute discussion with the audience. Simply Screen aims to show a selection of new video works from international artists that will cover a wide range of ideas, including issues of immigration, industrialisation, globalisation and identity. The event will interrogate how people in Asia and the Asian diasporas see themselves within the complex presence of contemporary global culture; how artists respond to ideas of contemporary multiculturalism and trans-nationalism related to the context of Asia; how artists visualise the issues of war, memory, conflict, displacement, identity and the sense of belonging. VIDEOHOLICA INTERNATIONAL Video festival Deadline: 20 June Category: Festival Email: Website: www.videoholica.org/en_apply.htm The 2nd edition of the VIDEOHOLICA INTERNATIONAL Video festival will take place in Varna, Bulgaria from 7 until 17 of August 2009. It will present a series of video art projections and exhibitions as well as discussions and workshops concerning video art topics in traditional gallery spaces in Varna and also in outdoor public spaces. The scheme is open to artists from artform disciplines including architecture, street art, film, visual arts and traditional arts. The aim of the scheme is to encourage intense collaboration between communities of place and/or interest and artists, culminating in an artwork or a project in which the members of the community group and the artists work together in order to realise an artistic project or an event. It is essential that meaningful consultation take place between the artist and the community group, so that both parties are involved in deciding on the nature of the project. Group ownership of the art should be maintained at every stage. The grant is thematic in approach and includes the collection of rare documents, original materials and first-hand information on contemporary Asian art. With a forward looking remit, the grant intends to build a strong foundation for the way in which contemporary art developments in 21st century Asia are understood. AAA calls for applications from independent researchers and writers for small and medium scale, goal-specific research projects. AAA will award a total amount of HK$ 80,000 (approx US$10,000). The project must be completed within one year beginning September 2009.
