Helsinki International Artists in-residence Programme invites international visual artists to submit applications for their Production
Residencies for the period of 2009/10. The Residencies, based in Helsinki, provide professional visual artists with an opportunity to concentrate on developing new concepts and / or producing new works. Production support is offered for the whole production process from the first idea until the finished piece. The length of the residency, the amount of the production budget and other practical issues will be negotiated with the selected artist according to the specific circumstances of their production proposal.

'NEW ART' is a competition/exhibition open to all final year undergraduates and postgraduate students of art studying at Irish and Northern Irish colleges and universities. Four artists will be selected and awarded a one month exhibition at Artlink's gallery at Fort Dunree in Donegal during 2009/10.

The selection panel will consist of Mark Wallinger, Dave Beech, Brian Duggan, Maoliosa Boyle, Adrian Kelly and Elaine Forde. 'NEW ART' will consider work in any medium, including painting, sculpture, installation, photography, multimedia, performance and live work, video and moving image, computer-based and websites.

Music Network, the national music development agency, invites young chamber music ensembles to apply for the Young Musicwide award 2009. Young Musicwide is a unique professional development scheme designed to assist some of Ireland's brightest young musicians at the beginning of their professional career. The award this year is open to chamber music ensembles of any instrumentation of between two and five people. The closing date for completed applications is 5 p.m. Monday 6th of July 2009. Through an audition process in September, an Irish or Ireland based chamber ensemble, with a proven interest in performance, will be selected to participate in the Young Musicwide Award programme for the period September 2009 to September 2012.

Ben Uri has announced a new competition for four young artists, providing them with a residency and a public exhibition, allowing up to four young artists the time and space to work on a project. The gallery will be open to the public from 2 to 5.30pm during this time and so the artists will be encouraged to engage with visitors and explain their practice during their work in the afternoons. Only artists under 28 who do not have a permanent studio space can apply. Fees: £250 towards each artist's expenses.

Four - Projector

FOUR is currently accepting submissions for PROJECTOR, an evening of screened video works by national and international artists selected by FOUR from an open submission call. PROJECTOR will take place on the evening of Wednesday 15 July 2009 from 8 to 10pm. Artists are invited to submit videos ranging from 2 to 20 minutes long.

Submissions should contain:
- current CV (one page)
- artist's statement / description of work (max. 250 words)
- film work submitted in DVD PAL format
- E5 submission fee (cheque or money order)
- a stamped SAE for return of same (alternately submitted work can be collected from FOUR.

The Hungarian Multicultural Center (HMC) is currently accepting applications for its International Artist Residency Programme which will run from Monday 28 December 2009 to Monday 11 January 2010.

The HMC was founded in 1995 to provide artists from all over the world with the opportunity to explore their practice within a stimulating and supportive environment. The AIR programme aims to bring together international artists at different stages of their careers in order to foster cultural exchange and development. Artists may use the residency to accomplish a specific project or experiment with their practice in a nurturing environment alongside other artists, and are provided with a studio space and exhibition opportunities.

The Province of Milan, the Fondazione Antonio Ratti, and the Delegation of the European Commission in Milan, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Mailand, promote the third edition of the European Course for Contemporary Art Curators (CECAC). The course gives the opportunity to European young curators to work side by side with an internationally renowned Visiting Professor, approaching a critical analysis of theoretical and practical aspects of curatorship and of the contemporary art scene.




BCI announces details of Eight Funding Round of ‘Sound & Vision' for TV

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) today (2nd June 2009) announced details of the eighth funding round of Sound & Vision, the Broadcasting Funding Scheme, for TV.  
Applications are now invited from programme makers for funding for new television programmes dealing with the themes of Irish culture, heritage and experience. The Sound & Vision scheme also provides funding for new programmes aimed at improving adult literacy.
The Commission expects decisions to be available by the end of September 2009.

Temple Bar Gallery & Studios invites applications for the use of one studio for specific, dedicated use by a visual art curator(s) and/or art critic/writer(s) to support the research, planning and development of new creative projects in 2009/2010.
Applications are invited from curators and art critic/writer(s) who are actively engaged with contemporary visual arts discourse and practice in Ireland. Individual, collaborative or group applications, as well as proposals made on the basis of public projects, collaborative projects or education and community activities, are all welcome. The studio is awarded on a project basis and for varying periods of time from 6 months to 1 year from 1 November 2009.
Applications will be placed before a selection panel comprising a sub-committee of the TBG&S Board and an independent external adjudicator.  Applications will be assessed on the basis of a specific proposal and should be accompanied by an outline plan for the use of the studio over a set period of time. The studio size is 4.6 x 4.3m and the rent for the studio is considerably subsidised at E156 per month including bills. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of August 2009.

DLR Arts and the Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Dun Laoghaire invite submissions from writers of contemporary fiction for a residency in IADT from October 2009 to May 2010.

DLR Arts invites submissions from mid-career script-writers for The Hugh Leonard Award.
The award will consist of a bursary of €5,000 and the production of a rehearsed reading of one of the writer's scripts at Mountains to Sea, DLR Literary Festival in September 2009.

22nd Foyle Film Festival Unveils Revamped Competition - Ireland's 22nd Foyle Film Festival takes place from Friday 20-Saturday 28 November 2009 at venues throughout Derry City.


The ‘Call For Entries' to all filmmakers for the Light In Motion (LIM) Awards begins on Monday 1 June. This year the competition strand has been streamlined to four categories. The selection process will see entrants battle it out for selection into one of the following four categories:

* Best Irish Short
* Best International Short
* Best Animation
* Best Documentary

Recipients of the LIM Award in any of the shorts categories (Irish/International/Animation) will qualify for consideration in the Short Films category of the Annual Academy Awards® without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with the Academy rules.

The Mourne Heritage Trust wishes to appoint artists to create four site-specific original pieces of public artwork at 4 Gateway locations across the Mourne Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Co. New Life Copenhagen

New Life Copenhagen will take place from December 9th to 18th, 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The festival is part of the official cultural program for the United Nations Conference for Climate Change - gathering 192 nations to broker a new global climate treaty to replace the Kyoto Protocol. Wooloo is inviting artists to engage in the pressing issue of climate change and submit proposals for sustainable 'life rules'
. These rules or interventions will be followed by at least 10.000 citizens in Copenhagen and should question the cultural habits of those involved. Selected proposals can also include public events or other physical manifestations and will be practically implemented in the everyday life of contemporary Copenhagen during the festival period in collaboration with our partners. Five final artists will be selected. The selected artists will receive both personal honorariums and full production budgets. The processing fee is USD$ 10 per individual application.

Alternative Arts has been commissioned to curate a temporarily vacant space being made available for the exhibition of photography free of charge. Photo-Space is situated on Commercial Road E1, near Limehouse DLR. Photographers are now invited to submit proposals for solo or group exhibitions in this new project. Applications are invited for the Lismore Castle Arts MA Fine Art Scholarship at Byam Shaw School of Art, Central Saint Martins, London. The Scholarship is valued at £5,000 and is for an EU student of Irish origin (Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland) beginning the MA Fine Art at Byam Shaw in October 2009.

The scholarship will cover all tuition fees for the academic year and a contribution towards maintenance expenses. Applicants must be accepted for a full-time MA in Fine Art at Byam Shaw and have (or expect to have) a first or 2:1 Hons bachelors degree from a Higher Education institution or a HE accredited Further Education institution by 31 July 2009.
