This small fee can be used to contribute to an artist's fee or pay for assistance with editing or design. The Agency covers the cost of production and splits sales income with the artist. This call is not for the production of new works for a dvd but rather to bring together existing materials for dvd distribution. The programme provides an opportunity to bring together artists to initiate dialogues across international borders, enabling pairs of artists to enter into new working relationships on an open-ended and informal basis. Professional, practising UK based artists can apply to invite an artist of their choice, to visit UK for one week for the exchange of ideas and experiences. The 2010 scheme will introduce a geographic focus by inviting artists from: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Cyprus, Egypt, Jordon, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Morocco, Oman, Palestine Territories, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. The selected overseas artist will spend 2 weeks in the UK. The emphasis is on the development and research process rather than production, free from any obligation to produce a prescribed outcome. The aim of the commission is to create a high quality, large-scale, permanent, innovative and original artwork, inspired by the ideas, imagination and aspirations of the young children living in Newry city today. Following a series of consultative workshops with children from across Newry the successful artist will incorporate children’s ideas into elements of the final design. The finished artwork will be a visual statement acknowledging the role of children in a cultural society and will become a permanent declaration of the importance of recognising children’s right to high quality arts and cultural enjoyment, acting as an example of good practice across Ireland and beyond. The residency includes free housing for the period of stay and offers work space at Kunst-Stoffe. The artist will have a small studio and additional outdoor workspace, as well as partial access to equipped workshops for wood, metal and crafts work. Further, participants will receive a voucher for limited amounts of free materials from the storage facilities. Living and travelling expenses have to be covered by the participant. The artist will also have the opportunity to present work process and results in a gallery show, along with a public program.
