In the First Round 2012 of the Arts Council’s Artist in the Community Scheme managed by Create, one Long Term and four Short Term Project Realisation awards were made, as well as 12 awards for Research and Development, five of which are with Mentoring.

The Scheme which funds artists to work collaboratively with communities to co-author contemporary arts projects will ensure that artists will create innovative work in a variety of community and social contexts including Arts and Disability, Arts and Cultural Diversity, Arts and Older People. This year there has been a broad representation of artforms with successful awardees in the areas of dance, theatre, music and the visual arts.

Patrick Fox, director Create said: 'We are thrilled that such a great spread of communities around the country will be able to create dynamic work with key artists in the area of collaborative arts practice because of the Arts Council Artist in the Community Scheme funding. The Scheme is proving to be one of the main arts funding sources which creates significant links between the arts and civil society groups . As we have seen over the last number of years the Research and Development and Mentoring strand provides the seed time for great work to grow.'
