In 2008, Trinity House School, and the Irish Youth Justice Service Board in partnership with Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts, offered a residency to visual artists to work collaboratively with the residents of Trinity House School.
The artists selected were: Dominic Thorpe; Niamh O’Connor and Ivan Connolly.
Context
Trinity House School is the only secure unit in the Republic of Ireland. The School is the responsibility of the Department of Education and Science. The unit provides accommodation for boys between the ages of 14 to 16 years. The District Courts are the main source of referrals. Young People can be sentenced to between 3 months and 3 years; the average length of stay is between 12 and 14 months.
Create is involved periodically in commissions and awards with partner organisations.
