Context

Trinity House School, Oberstown, Lusk, Co. Dublin, is one of 4 children detention schools which are the responsibility of the Irish Youth Justice Service.  Trinity House is the most secure unit of the 4 schools and provides detention places for boys aged between 12 and 16 years of age, remanded or committed by the courts. Committals range from 3 months to 2 years, with the average length of stay
being between 9 and 12 months.

The school has a capacity to accommodate 24 boys, with an additional 3 places available in the school’s stepdown facility.  Trinity House is designed as 3 house units, each of which can accommodate 8 boys.   Each unit incorporates bedrooms, living space, kitchens, staff rooms and outdoor secure recreation areas.  The school's ethos, as with the other detention schools, is one of individualised care, education/training and rehabilitation for each child.

Trinity House also incorporates an education facility with a range of classrooms and workshops where the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee provides individual programmes of education in small class groups for a range of abilities.
